Caitlin Long is the founder and CEO of Custodia Bank, a Wyoming-based bank built to bridge Bitcoin and the traditional financial system. She is one of the most prominent voices in Bitcoin banking and regulatory policy.

Wyoming Legislation

Long was instrumental in drafting and passing Wyoming’s blockchain-friendly legislation between 2018 and 2020. She helped create the Special Purpose Depository Institution (SPDI) charter, a new type of bank charter designed specifically for digital asset custody and payments. This legislation made Wyoming one of the most progressive states in the US for Bitcoin businesses.

Custodia Bank

Long founded Custodia Bank (originally Avanti Financial Group) in 2020 to provide Bitcoin custody and payment services under a full bank charter. Custodia operates under Wyoming’s SPDI framework and holds reserves on a full-reserve basis.

Background

Before entering Bitcoin, Long spent over two decades on Wall Street, including roles as managing director at Morgan Stanley and head of pension solutions at Credit Suisse. Her Wall Street experience informs her approach to bringing institutional-grade Bitcoin services within a regulated banking framework.
