Jameson Lopp is the co-founder and CTO of Casa, a Bitcoin security company, and one of the most prolific educators on Bitcoin security and self-custody.

Casa

Lopp co-founded Casa to make multisignature Bitcoin custody accessible to individuals. Casa provides a key management service that distributes signing keys across multiple devices and locations, allowing users to secure their Bitcoin without relying on a single point of failure. The product is designed so that users always maintain control of their own keys while having a safety net for key recovery.

Bitcoin Security Research

Lopp is known for his extensive research and writing on Bitcoin node performance, network security, and personal security for Bitcoin holders. His website lopp.net hosts one of the most comprehensive collections of Bitcoin resources on the internet, covering everything from node software benchmarks to guides on physical security for high-net-worth Bitcoiners.

He maintains annual benchmarks of Bitcoin node sync times and has written extensively on the tradeoffs between convenience and security in Bitcoin custody.

Background

Lopp previously worked as a software engineer at BitGo. He is also known for being an outspoken advocate of personal privacy, having taken significant steps to remove his personal information from public databases after experiencing a physical security threat (a SWATting incident) in 2017.
