What Is Bonk?

Bonk (BONK) is a Solana-based memecoin best known for reviving on-chain activity on Solana after the FTX collapse in late 2022. Launched in December 2022 via a large free airdrop to Solana users, NFT holders, and developers, BONK quickly became the most widely traded and culturally significant memecoin on Solana. It has since grown into a broader brand with associated trading bots, launchpads, and integrations across Solana DeFi.

BONK launched on Solana on Christmas Day 2022. The token was created by a group of pseudonymous and named Solana ecosystem contributors who wanted to reward the community after a difficult year. Roughly half of the initial supply was distributed for free across the Solana community, including holders from dozens of NFT projects, DeFi users, artists, validators, and developers. There was no presale and no traditional fundraise; the airdrop was the launch.

Bonk is an SPL token (Solana's token standard). It has no proprietary chain or smart contract platform of its own; it lives on Solana and benefits from Solana's high throughput and low fees. BONK transactions confirm in roughly half a second and cost a fraction of a cent, which makes it well suited to memecoin culture and high-frequency speculative activity.

BONK launched with a supply of 100 trillion tokens, allocated across the community airdrop, developer rewards, contributor allocations, and ongoing ecosystem and marketing programs. Burns are a regular feature of the BONK ecosystem: portions of revenue from BONK-aligned products are used to burn tokens, gradually reducing supply. On-chain supply has since fallen to roughly 88 trillion tokens as burns have removed around 12 trillion from circulation.

Beyond being a memecoin, the BONK community has shipped or backed several products on Solana. BONK.fun (also branded BONK Fun) is a community-run meme launchpad that competes with Pump.fun, and BonkBot is a Telegram-based Solana trading bot used to trade quickly from a phone. The official BONK site now lists a wider product set that includes BONK Swap (a DEX), BONK Trade (a decentralized spot and perpetuals platform), BONKUJI (a trading-card product), BonkX, and OBNK, reflecting a move toward more structured financial products alongside the meme-launchpad roots. The BONK brand has also been used in NFT mints, gaming partnerships, and exchange listings, including integrations with Solana Saga and Seeker phones.

BONK is integrated across Solana DEXs (Jupiter, Raydium, Orca), payments rails for tipping and swaps, and many wallets that maintain a curated SPL token list. It has frequently traded among the largest memecoins by market cap and has become a cultural touchstone for the Solana ecosystem.

Getting Started With Bonk

BONK is a Solana SPL token, so getting started is the same as for any Solana asset:

  1. Step 1: Install a Solana wallet such as Phantom, Solflare, or Backpack.
  2. Step 2: Acquire SOL or BONK on a supported exchange and withdraw to your Solana address.
  3. Step 3: Swap into BONK on a Solana DEX aggregator such as Jupiter, or via Raydium or Orca.
  4. Step 4: Use BONK with associated apps such as BonkBot, BONK.fun, or integrate BONK into your Solana DeFi positions.

How to Get a Bonk Wallet?

Any wallet that supports Solana SPL tokens supports BONK:

Phantom

Phantom is the most widely used Solana wallet. It is available as a browser extension and mobile app and supports BONK and other SPL tokens out of the box.

Solflare

Solflare is an established Solana wallet with both browser extension and mobile versions, with strong staking, NFT, and SPL token support.

Backpack

Backpack is a Solana-native wallet from Coral that emphasizes a modern UX and integrates with the Backpack Exchange. It supports BONK and other SPL tokens.

Hardware Wallets

Ledger devices support Solana via the Solana app and can be paired with Phantom, Solflare, or Backpack to keep BONK and other SPL tokens in cold storage.

How to Buy Bonk?

BONK is widely listed on centralized and decentralized exchanges:

Centralized Exchanges

BONK trades on Binance, Coinbase, Kraken, Bybit, OKX, KuCoin, Bitget, and Gate. Common pairs include BONK/USDT, BONK/USDC, and BONK/USD.

Decentralized Exchanges

On Solana itself, BONK trades on every major DEX, including Raydium and Orca, with aggregated routing via Jupiter, which is the most common way Solana users acquire BONK. Wrapped BONK is also available on Ethereum and BNB Chain via bridges.

After buying, BONK can be held in any Solana wallet, used in BONK-integrated apps such as BonkBot and BONK.fun, or deployed into Solana DeFi positions that accept it as a base asset.

Latest Bonk News

In July 2026, the BonkDAO treasury was drained through a passed malicious governance proposal. DefiLlama's hacks dataset records the loss at about $21.3 million on July 6, 2026, classified as a protocol-logic exploit via a malicious governance proposal, while the project's own account described the figure as roughly $20 million. The incident affected the DAO treasury, which holds a large BONK allocation, rather than the BONK token contract itself; on-chain BONK supply was unchanged. It is a reminder that governance-controlled treasuries carry their own security risks.

Aside from that event, BONK has remained one of the most active memecoins on Solana, with its associated products (BonkBot, BONK.fun) generating trading-fee revenue and supporting the broader BONK token economy through buybacks and burns.
