What Is Kaia?
Kaia is a layer-1 blockchain created in 2024 by merging Klaytn, the blockchain backed by South Korean tech giant Kakao, with Finschia, the blockchain backed by LINE (the dominant messenger across Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand). The merged network combines the user bases, developer ecosystems, and infrastructure of both chains, and is positioned as the Web3 backbone for the LINE and Kakao messaging platforms.

The merger was announced in early 2024 by Klaytn Foundation and Finschia Foundation, and Kaia mainnet launched in August 2024. Existing KLAY and FNSA tokens were converted to KAIA according to predefined ratios, and the legacy chains were consolidated into the new Kaia network. Kaia DLT Foundation, an independent non-profit, governs the merged network.
Kaia is EVM-compatible and built on a high-performance fork of Ethereum tooling, originally inherited from Klaytn's architecture. Consensus uses a proof-of-stake variant with a set of governance council members that includes major Asian enterprises, technology firms, and ecosystem partners. Block times are sub-second, fees are low, and standard Ethereum tooling (Hardhat, Foundry, Remix, MetaMask) works on Kaia with minimal modification.
KAIA is the native asset of the network. It is used to pay transaction fees, stake with validators (and delegate), participate in governance, and underpin the Kaia DeFi and consumer ecosystems. The token has a defined emission schedule with portions allocated to validator rewards, ecosystem programs, and the merger conversion.
The standout feature of Kaia is its direct integration with LINE and Kakao messaging apps. LINE's mini-apps and dApp portal expose Web3 services, NFTs, and stablecoin payments inside the messenger, and KakaoTalk integrations bring similar features to Korean users. Built-in wallets such as LINE's Dapp Portal Wallet and Kaia Wallet (formerly Kaikas, the original Klaytn browser wallet, renamed at mainnet launch) make onboarding easier than typical crypto flows.
The Kaia ecosystem spans DeFi protocols, NFT marketplaces, gaming projects, and stablecoin issuers. Korean and Japanese games, K-pop and entertainment NFTs, and a growing roster of payment and identity apps live on the network. Kaia has also focused on stablecoin support, including USDT issued natively on Kaia.
By merging two of the largest non-Western consumer blockchains, Kaia positions itself as a single distribution layer across roughly 250 million combined messaging users in Asia, an unusually concentrated audience for a Web3 platform.
Getting Started With Kaia
The easiest way into Kaia is through one of the messaging-integrated wallets:
- Step 1: Use the LINE Dapp Portal inside LINE or install a Kaia wallet such as Kaia Wallet (formerly Kaikas) or MetaMask configured for Kaia.
- Step 2: Acquire KAIA on a supported exchange and withdraw to your Kaia address.
- Step 3: Delegate KAIA to a validator through your wallet to earn staking rewards.
- Step 4: Explore Kaia dApps, mini-apps in LINE, and NFT marketplaces to see consumer Web3 in action.
How to Get a Kaia Wallet?
Several wallets support KAIA:
Kaia Wallet
Kaia Wallet (formerly Kaikas) is the leading wallet for the Kaia ecosystem. Originally the Klaytn browser wallet, it was renamed to Kaia Wallet at mainnet launch and supports KAIA, KIP-7 / KIP-17 tokens, and connecting to Kaia dApps.
LINE Dapp Portal Wallet
The Dapp Portal Wallet is built into the LINE messenger and gives LINE users non-custodial access to KAIA, mini-apps, and Kaia-based assets without leaving the chat app.
MetaMask and Other EVM Wallets
Because Kaia is EVM-compatible, MetaMask, Rabby, and similar wallets can be configured with Kaia network details to interact with the chain.
Hardware Wallets
Ledger devices support Kaia via the Ethereum app or dedicated integrations, which can be paired with MetaMask or compatible wallets for cold-storage signing.

Latest Kaia News
The most consequential recent event for Kaia is the merger itself, completed in 2024, which brought Klaytn and Finschia into a single chain and unified the LINE and Kakao Web3 ecosystems. Since launch, the team has focused on shipping consumer mini-apps inside LINE, expanding stablecoin support, and integrating Kaia with regional partners across Asia.
