What Is Ondo?

Ondo Finance is a decentralized finance protocol focused on tokenizing real-world assets (RWAs), making institutional-grade financial products accessible on the blockchain. Founded by Nathan Allman, a former Goldman Sachs employee, Ondo launched in 2021 and has become one of the leading projects in the rapidly growing RWA tokenization sector.

Ondo's flagship products are tokenized versions of traditional financial instruments. USDY (Ondo US Dollar Yield) is a tokenized note backed by short-term U.S. Treasuries and bank deposits, offering holders a yield while maintaining a stable value. OUSG (Ondo Short-Term U.S. Government Treasuries) provides direct exposure to short-term U.S. Treasury securities on-chain. These products allow DeFi users to access U.S. Treasury yields without leaving the blockchain ecosystem.

The ONDO token is the governance token of the Ondo DAO, which oversees protocol decisions including the management and development of Ondo's financial products. Token holders can participate in governance votes that shape the protocol's direction, fee structures, and new product launches.

Ondo Finance operates at the intersection of traditional finance (TradFi) and decentralized finance (DeFi). The protocol works with regulated financial institutions as custodians and fund administrators, ensuring that its tokenized products meet regulatory requirements while being composable with DeFi protocols. This hybrid approach has attracted significant institutional interest.

The RWA tokenization narrative has been one of the strongest trends in crypto during 2024–2026, with major financial institutions like BlackRock launching tokenized fund products. Ondo has positioned itself as a key infrastructure player in this space, with its products available across multiple blockchain networks including Ethereum, Solana, and various layer-2 networks.

Ondo also developed Flux Finance, a decentralized lending protocol that allows users to borrow against their tokenized RWA positions, further integrating these traditional financial products into the DeFi ecosystem.
