What Is Pump.fun?
Pump.fun is the dominant permissionless memecoin launchpad on the Solana blockchain. Anyone can create a token in seconds, with no coding and minimal cost, and trade it immediately. Its native token is PUMP, a Solana SPL token whose economics are tied to the platform's fee revenue.

Each coin created on Pump.fun launches on a bonding curve, meaning its price rises algorithmically as people buy and falls as they sell, with no traditional presale or team-allocated liquidity. When a coin attracts enough buying to "bond," it graduates and its liquidity migrates to a full automated market maker for open trading. This model was pitched as a defense against certain kinds of rug pulls, since liquidity is formed by the market rather than seeded and withdrawn by a creator.
Pump.fun launched in January 2024. It was founded by three entrepreneurs who met in the United Kingdom, Alon Cohen, Noah Tweedale, and Dylan Kerler, operating through a company called Baton Corporation. The founders keep relatively low public profiles. The platform grew explosively, at times accounting for the large majority of new token issuance on Solana and generating hundreds of millions of dollars in cumulative fees.
In March 2025, Pump.fun launched its own decentralized exchange, PumpSwap, and stopped migrating graduated tokens to third-party venues. Bonded tokens now move to PumpSwap instantly and without a migration fee. PumpSwap is a constant-product automated market maker that charges a small fee per trade, split between liquidity providers and the protocol, and later added revenue sharing for coin creators.
PUMP is the platform's token, launched via a public sale in July 2025. Its central economic feature is a fee-funded buyback program: revenue from bonding-curve fees and PumpSwap is used to buy back PUMP from the market. The team has adjusted over time how much of revenue goes toward buybacks, and has also carried out token burns.
PUMP has a maximum supply of 1 trillion tokens. The July 2025 public ICO sold tokens at a fraction of a cent and, according to widely reported figures, sold out in around twelve minutes, raising roughly $500 million; including a private sale, total capital raised was substantially higher. Reported allocations divide the supply across the token sale, community, team, existing investors, and smaller ecosystem, foundation, and liquidity portions.
Getting Started With Pump.fun
PUMP is a Solana SPL token, so getting started is the same as for any Solana asset:
- Step 1: Install a Solana wallet such as Phantom, Solflare, or Backpack.
- Step 2: Acquire SOL or PUMP on a supported exchange and withdraw to your Solana address.
- Step 3: Swap into PUMP on a Solana DEX such as PumpSwap or Raydium, or via a Jupiter route.
- Step 4: Always confirm the correct PUMP mint address before trading, since launchpad tokens attract copycats.

Latest Pump.fun News
Since the PUMP token launch in July 2025, Pump.fun has continued its fee-funded buyback program and expanded PumpSwap. It has also faced growing competition from rival Solana launchpads, most notably LetsBonk, which at points challenged Pump.fun's share of new token creation. The platform has additionally drawn regulatory attention and litigation over its permissionless model, though a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission staff statement in early 2025 indicated that memecoins are generally not treated as securities.
Because token launchpad activity and PUMP's price move quickly, the official website and X account are the best places to follow buyback updates, product launches, and the competitive landscape. Always verify the token mint address before trading.
