What Is Syscoin?
Syscoin (SYS) is a blockchain platform that has been in continuous development since its launch in 2014. What makes Syscoin unique is its dual-chain architecture that combines the security of Bitcoin's Proof of Work (through merge-mining with Bitcoin) with the programmability of an Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible layer called NEVM (Network-Enhanced Virtual Machine). Merge-mining means that Bitcoin miners can simultaneously mine Syscoin blocks without additional energy expenditure, giving Syscoin access to a significant portion of Bitcoin's hashrate for securing its network. This makes Syscoin one of the most secure blockchains outside of Bitcoin itself, as attacking the network would require overcoming the combined mining power dedicated to both chains.
The NEVM layer provides full Ethereum compatibility, meaning that Solidity smart contracts, development tools like Hardhat and MetaMask, and existing Ethereum dApps can be deployed on Syscoin with minimal modifications. The NEVM chain is connected to the Syscoin UTXO chain through a bridge, allowing assets to move between the two layers. The UTXO layer handles high-speed, low-cost token transfers using the Syscoin Platform Token (SPT) standard.
Syscoin also implements a data availability solution inspired by Ethereum's danksharding concept called PoDA (Proof of Data Availability). This allows Layer 2 rollups built on Syscoin's NEVM to post their data proofs to Syscoin's UTXO chain at very low cost, creating a scalable foundation for rollup-based applications. The platform is designed to serve as a settlement and data availability layer for the broader modular blockchain ecosystem.

How to Buy Syscoin?
SYS is available on centralized exchanges including Binance, KuCoin, and Gate.io. Create an account, complete verification, deposit funds, and trade for SYS. Make sure to select the correct network when withdrawing (UTXO or NEVM).

Latest Syscoin News
Syscoin now markets itself as "Bitcoin's only modular network." Its production Layer 2 is Rollux, an OP Stack rollup that runs EVM applications and anchors to Bitcoin's security through Syscoin's PoDA data availability layer. Rollux is live and has its own block explorer, and it is the practical answer to the question of what actually builds on top of the settlement layer described above.
The current phase of the roadmap centers on what Syscoin calls Edgechains, modular execution layers that settle back to the merge-mined Syscoin base chain, paired with AI-powered sentry nodes intended to handle security monitoring and predictive analytics. The first Edgechain, zkSYS Genesis, launched as a public testnet in March 2026. It is a zero-knowledge rollup built on Matter Labs' ZK Stack that batches transactions, generates a validity proof, and settles that proof back to Syscoin's Bitcoin-secured chain. A June 2026 update reported roughly a month of stable operation since its latest upgrade and described the project as being in the final stretch before mainnet, but no mainnet date has been announced. Additional Edgechains have been outlined rather than shipped, including Lunos, a compliance-focused chain that entered a research and development phase in early 2026.
Syscoin also disclosed a security incident in 2026. On June 7, 2026 an attacker exploited a cross-layer interpretation mismatch between Syscoin Core and the NEVM relay to release 5 billion SYS on the UTXO side of the Syscoin bridge. In a postmortem published on June 15, 2026, the project said the attacker returned the tokens to an official recovery address and that the recovered SYS were burned to an OP_RETURN address, restoring the reported coin supply to its expected value. The bridge was paused pending final review and remediation.
