What Is XDC Network?

XDC Network is an EVM-compatible layer-1 blockchain focused on enterprise applications, with particular adoption in trade finance, tokenized real-world assets, and cross-border payments. It is designed to combine the openness of a public chain with the performance and operational characteristics required by financial institutions and supply-chain operators.

XDC Network was originally launched in 2017 as XinFin and later rebranded to XDC Network. Founders Atul Khekade and Ritesh Kakkad set out to build a hybrid blockchain that could connect institutional trade-finance workflows with on-chain settlement. The mainnet went live in 2019, and the project has since attracted partnerships with trade-finance organizations, banks, and supply-chain consortia.

Technically, XDC is EVM-compatible and uses a delegated proof-of-stake consensus called XDPoS. A set of masternodes (validator nodes) is elected via stake-weighted voting and is responsible for producing and validating blocks. Block times are approximately 2 seconds and fees are very low. Smart contracts written in Solidity deploy on XDC with minimal changes, and standard Ethereum tooling (Hardhat, Foundry, Remix, MetaMask) works after configuring the network.

The network has a hybrid architecture concept that distinguishes between public XDC operations and private state for enterprise consortia. The public chain is permissionless for end users, while enterprises can run private subnetworks anchored to the public XDC mainnet for sensitive trade-finance and supply-chain data.

XDC launched with a pre-mined genesis supply of 37.5 billion tokens. Masternodes earn newly minted XDC as block rewards, while a share of smart-contract transaction fees is burned, so net supply is dynamic rather than capped. It is used to pay transaction fees, stake to run or delegate to masternodes, and reward network participants. Masternode operators stake a fixed amount of XDC to participate in consensus and earn block rewards plus a share of transaction fees.

The flagship use case for XDC has been trade finance. The TradeFinex platform, an XDC-aligned trade-finance protocol, has worked with banks, exporters, and tokenization platforms to bring invoices, letters of credit, and other trade instruments on-chain. Industry bodies such as the International Trade and Forfaiting Association (ITFA) have referenced XDC in standards work around tokenized trade assets.

Beyond trade finance, the XDC ecosystem includes tokenized real-world asset platforms, payment service providers, NFT and gaming projects, and DeFi protocols. Stablecoin issuance and bridging activity have grown alongside the network's RWA (real-world asset) focus.

Getting Started With XDC

Getting started with XDC is straightforward thanks to its EVM compatibility:

  1. Step 1: Install a wallet such as XDCPay, MetaMask configured for XDC, or another supported EVM wallet.
  2. Step 2: Acquire XDC on a supported exchange and withdraw to your XDC address.
  3. Step 3: Use your wallet to interact with XDC dApps, including DeFi, RWA, and trade-finance applications.
  4. Step 4: To run a masternode, stake the required XDC and follow the operator documentation, or delegate to an existing masternode through compatible services.

How to Get an XDC Wallet?

Several wallets support XDC and XRC-20 tokens:

XDCPay

XDCPay is the official XDC browser extension wallet maintained by XinFin / XDC Network. It supports XDC, XRC-20 tokens, and connecting to XDC dApps.

MetaMask

MetaMask can be configured with XDC Network details and used to manage XDC and XRC-20 tokens, sign transactions, and connect to XDC dApps.

Trust Wallet

Trust Wallet supports XDC as a native asset for mobile users, including sending, receiving, and storing XDC.

Hardware Wallets

Ledger devices support XDC, which can be paired with XDCPay or MetaMask for cold-storage signing.

How to Buy XDC?

XDC is listed on a range of centralized exchanges:

Centralized Exchanges

XDC trades on Bybit, KuCoin, Bitget, Gate, MEXC, Kraken (regional availability varies), and Bitfinex. Common pairs include XDC/USDT, XDC/USDC, and XDC/BTC.

Decentralized Exchanges

On XDC Network itself, XDC trades on XDC-native DEXs such as XSwap against XRC-20 tokens. Wrapped XDC also appears on some Ethereum and BNB Chain DEXs via bridges.

After buying, XDC can be held in any compatible wallet, used to pay fees, delegated to masternodes, or deployed into XDC DeFi and RWA applications.

Latest XDC News

Recent priorities for XDC Network have centered on tokenized real-world assets, particularly trade-finance instruments, and on expanding partnerships with banks, payment providers, and tokenization platforms. Industry standards work around tokenized trade assets has continued to cite XDC alongside other enterprise-grade networks.
